Kevin Cooks: Pork Lo Mein

Along with that orange chicken, it’s the go to at any Chinese buffet.

Ingredients:

  • Packaged Lo Mein Noodles (I get mine at a local asian store)

  • 1-2 Carrots

  • 4-5 Scallions

  • Shiitake Mushrooms

  • 1/4 Cabbage

  • 4-5 Minced/crushed garlic cloves

  • Ginger

  • 1 Onion

  • 1 lb of pork

For the Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1 tbsp shaoxing wine

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • white peper

  • 1/2 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tbsp water

  • 1/2 tbsp cornstarch

Directions:

  1. Start by mixing your sauce ingredients together. Make sure to mix well to incorporate the cornstarch into the sauce. Set aside for later.

  2. Cut up all your vegetables to your desire

  3. In a pot, boil water and add the packaged lo mein noodles. Cook based on packaging instructions.

  4. While your pot is starting to boil, heat up a wok (or a pan) on high heat. Add a minor amount vegetable oil and start by frying up the pork to render out some of the fat. Add your garlic and once it becomes aromatic, add the rest of your vegetables (all at once; why not). Continue to fry until the vegetables continue to cook and soften.

  5. Once the noodles are finished cooking and your vegetables are cooked through, add the noodles into the wok/pan with everything else.

  6. Dump the sauce into the pan/wok and mix until combined.
